Trust the Process

In the 80’s and 90’s, “Choose Your Own Adventure” books were all the rage. Readers could choose how their story would go, as well as one of over 40 different endings. Of course, I would usually take it a step further and glance ahead at my two choices to see what would happen, so I knew which one to follow.

Even though this might get me the ending that I wanted, I was also missing out on the experience of just being present in the story and enjoying it as it developed. I’d miss out on the plot as it thickened and the connections that were developing between the characters, so it often didn’t make total sense or feel fulfilling when I got to the end.

The same can be said for life.

When we try to jump ahead and stop living in the present, we miss out on a lot. The lessons we learn from our experiences often build on one another and when we jump ahead, we could be missing crucial steps. We also will meet people along the way that may play an integral role in future experiences, so shortcuts could cause you to miss these important connections.

Put Your #Faith In God’s Timing and #Trust The Path You Are On. Be Present! #CCI Click To Tweet

Instead of trying to get a glimpse of the future or skip ahead, we need to learn to trust the process. Putting our faith in God’s will for our lives and focusing on the truth that His timing is better than ours, helps us to trust the path we are on – no matter how short or how long.

Our students at Christian Coach Institute often hear the phrase “Trust the Process” as they progress in through the weeks of intense training to be a Professional Christian Life Coach. Sometimes they may be tempted to skip ahead a few lessons. But instead of trying to fly through the program as quickly as possible, we encourage them to take their time and dive deeper into the content each step of the way. The lessons are designed to create awareness, build confidence and competence as they build from week to week. No matter what journey you are embarking on, slow down, “trust the process” and enjoy the journey.

How can you help your clients to trust the process of life and learn the lessons they encounter along the way without rushing through them? After all, God’s timing is not our timing. And, HIS timing is always perfect.

Are you living in the present moment or trying to skip ahead?

If you’re skipping ahead, how might that be affecting your success?

What can you do differently to trust the process?
